2023 - Round 7 Results - A Little Regression

The MoS trio have clung onto the Top 3 spots in two of the three competitions this week, slipping only via MoSHBODS_Marg on margin prediction.

On head-to-head tipping, six of the nine early favourites were successful, and none of the Tipsters did better than six from nine. MoSHBODS_Marg and MoSSBODS_Marg were two of the high scorers, which assured their continued occupancy of 1st and 2nd places on the Leaderboard. MoSHPlay_Marg managed only five from nine, which meant it was caught from Bookie Knows Best in equal 3rd.

The all-Tipster average for the round was 5.6 from 9 and, for the season, it now stands at 39.4 from 63 (63%).

The Margin Predictors’ mean absolute errors (MAEs) covered a range from Bookie_3’s 26.6 points per game to Bookie_9’s 29.3 points per game, with the all-Predictor average coming in at 27.8 points per game per Predictor, up about 4.6 points per game on the Round 6 figure.

MoSHPlay_Marg’s performance was enough to keep it in 1st place on the Leaderboard ahead of MoSSBODS_Marg, with ENS_Linear (who, I’ll admit, I was worried about pre-season) jumping into 3rd.

Log probability scores were all moderately positive this week with the best belonging to MoSSBODS_Prob, who moved in 1st place ahead of MoSHPlay_Prob, leaving MoSHBODS_Prob still in 3rd.

WAGERING

The profitable streak for Investors finally ended this week, with all three Funds registering a loss. There’s no doubt that there were close results in a number of cases, but you don’t get to blithely accept the close ones that go in your favour and only write about the close ones that don’t. We’ve had our share of both this season.

Overall, the Combined Portfolio fell by 3c, leaving it up 7.4c on the season, that from a 21% ROT on an 0.35 turn.
