Probably the most significant Ratings development this week was that MARS now Ranks the Swans above the Hawks while ChiPS is steadfast in its preference for the Hawks over the Swans.

Elsewhere in the ChiPS universe, five teams lifted their Rankings on the back of the weekend's efforts, foremost amongst them Port Adelaide who climbed three places into 3rd. Five teams also saw their ChiPS Ranking decline, though only the Roos and the Crows fell by more than a single spot, both falling by two places into 5th and 6th respectively.

Regardless, still it is that the absolute Ratings of ChiPS and MARS for every team tell much the same story.

Introducing next the Massey, Colley and ODM Systems reveals once again the broad agreement amongst ChiPS, MARS, Massey and ODM in terms of the Ranking of most teams, and the unique opinion of Colley with respect to a number of teams.

Colley is the only System to differ in its Ranking of any team by more than a single place relative to every other System. It Ranks:

  • Adelaide 10th, at least two places lower than any other System
  • Brisbane Lions 13th, at least two places higher than any other System 
  • Collingwood 8th, at least two places higher than any other System 
  • Essendon 7th, at least two places higher than any other System 
  • Geelong 3rd at least two places higher than any other System 
  • West Coast 12th at least three places lower than any other System

That independence, which it has displayed for much of the season, has not translated into simple predictive accuracy, as the following chart attests.

Relative to MARS, ChiPS made no further headway this week but still has tipped 4 additional winners across the season. Massey and ODM also made no impressions on MARS and still trail by 10 and 13 tips respectively, while Colley slipped a further tip behind to trail now by 16 tips. That's an insurmountable gap with only nine home-and-away season games to play.

Looking at the ODM Defensive and Offensive components alone, the Defensive component remained 12 tips behind MARS this week while the Offensive component fell two tips further behind to trail now by 10 tips.

Speaking of the Offensive and Defensive components of ODM, six teams now have Rankings on these separate components that differ by four places or more.

Three teams have significantly higher Defensive Rankings:

  • Collingwood, Ranked 9th on Defence and 13th on Offence
  • Essendon Ranked 4th on Defence and 12th on Offence
  • Melbourne, Ranked 11th on Defence and 18th on Offence

Another three teams have significantly higher Offensive Rankings:

  • Adelaide, Ranked 4th on Offence and 12th on Defence
  • Carlton, Ranked 15th on Offence and 9th on Defence
  • Hawthorn, Ranked 8th on Offence and 1st on Defence
