2011 MARS Ratings After Round 10

Just five movers on the MARS Ratings ladder this week, 2 ups and 3 downs.

St Kilda were the big climbers, up 3 places into 5th spot on the back of the 4.2 Ratings Points they gained from their 46-point win over Freo. The Lions were the other team to rise, up 1 spot to 14th having snatched 4.5 Ratings Points from Adelaide.

The three teams to fall were the Dogs, down 2 places to 7th after surrendering 2.5 Ratings Points to Hawthorn; Sydney down 1 place to 8th after giving up a fraction of a Ratings Point to the Roos; and Richmond down 1 place to 15th after shedding 2.4 Ratings Points in a surprise - and, for Investors, painful - loss to Port Adelaide.

This week I've added a column showing each team's current ladder position. The largest differences between MARS Rating order and ladder position relate to:

  • St Kilda - 5th on MARS Ratings but 11th on the Competition Ladder
  • Dogs - 7th on MARS but 12th on the Competition Ladder
  • Richmond - 15th on MARS but 9th on the Competition Ladder

The TAB Sportsbet bookmaker also seems to think that the Saints' and the Tigers' ladder positions are not an accurate reflection of their relative merits. He has the Saints on the 6th line of Premiership betting, and the Tigers on the 11th line, equal with Adelaide and Melbourne. As well, he has the Dogs on the 10th line of betting, which is higher than their ladder position, but not as high as MARS Ratings currently have them.
