2011 MARS Ratings After Round 2

The first two rounds have served up a mixed bag of contests. We've had two draws, and four more games that have been decided by less than a kick, but we've also had six games that have finished with victory margins of over seven goals.

All of which have served to bolster and batter the respective MARS Ratings of the victors and the vanquished. Here's where it's left the teams:

Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon have been the biggest movers, all lifting their rating by more than 5 Rating points on the back of one particularly convincing victory. Collingwood's endeavours now see it over 12 Ratings points clear of the Cats at the top of the MARS Rating ladder.

Heading in the other direction have been the Gold Coast (despite having had its Rating protected by the bye in the first round), the Roos, the Lions, and Port Adelaide. Each has fallen by more than 5.5 Ratings points which, in Port's case, has been enough to dropkick it to the foot of the MARS ladder.

Arguably, Richmond and West Coast have claims to having been overlooked a little in the MARS Ratings, with the Tigers going down playing away to the resurgent Blues in Round 1 and then almost pulling off the upset playing away again in Round 2 against the Saints, and with West Coast winning both their games, albeit only against the 13th and the last-placed teams on current MARS Ratings in the Roos and Port.
