The latest Ranking on Dashboard metrics data appears below, and shows that, at this point in the season, defence has been more important than offence.

We have:

  • The rank correlation between Ladder Position and Conceded Scoring Shots per Game is +0.78, while that between Ladder Position and Recorded Scoring Shots per Game is just +0.32

  • The rank correlation between Ladder Position and Conceded Points per Game is +0.78, while that between Ladder Position and Recorded Points per Game is just +0.59

The MoS Win Production Function continues to provide a good fit with Ladder Position. The rank correlation between the two now stands at +0.93.

Next, we have the full Team Dashboard below, which shows that:

  • St Kilda have outscored their opponents by almost 4:1 in Q1s

  • Melbourne have outscored their opponents by almost 3:1 in Q4s

  • Essendon have scored only 16% of their point in Q1s, and Western Bulldogs 14%

  • GWS have scored only 16% of their points in Q2s, Port Adelaide 18%, and St Kilda 14%

  • Hawthorn have scored only 6% of their points in Q3s. Their percentage for that quarter is 12.

  • Brisbane Lions have scored only 15% of their point in Q4s, Carlton 16%, Geelong 17%, and Western Bulldogs 14%

  • Western Bulldogs have scored 40% of their points in Q2s

  • St Kilda, who sit 1st on the Ladder have won exactly as many quarters as GWS, who sit 10th, and fewer than Melbourne, Sydney, Carlton, Collingwood, and Essendon
