The latest Ranking on Dashboard metrics data appears below, and shows that the strongest rank correlations with ladder position are associated with:

  • Percentage of Quarters Won (+0.96)

  • The MoS Win Production Function (+0.9)

  • Scoring Shots Conceded (+0.83)

  • Q4 Performances (+0.83)

  • Own Scoring: Points (+0.8)

  • Scoring Shots Generated (+0.78)

  • Own Scoring: Goals (+0.76)

  • Opponent Scoring: Points (+0.75)

  • Q3 Performances (+0.74)

  • Q1 Performances (+0.72)

The weakest rank correlations with ladder position are associated with:

  • Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.18)

  • Q2 Performances (+0.44)

It’s notable, I think, that every team currently in the Top 8 is ranked 10th or worse on at least one metric, and six of them are ranked 12th or worse on at least one metric, the exceptions in the latter case being Collingwood and Melbourne.

Notable as well is the fact that the teams in 9th to 15th on the ladder are all ranked in the Top 5 on at least one metric.

Next, we have the full Team Dashboard below, which shows that:

  • Geelong, in 10th, have scored more points than any other team in the competition

  • West Coast have scored less than half what their opponents have scored in Q2s and in Q4s

  • Hawthorn have scored only 18% of their points in Q3s. Their percentage for that quarter is 48

  • Brisbane Lions, Collingwood, Melbourne, and Port Adelaide have all outscored their opponents in every quarter

  • Hawthorn, North Melbourne, and West Coast have all been outscored by their opponents in every quarter

  • The teams currently in the Top 8 had a four and four record in Round 11

  • The team currently in positions 9 through 16 on the ladder had a 5 and 3 record in Round 11

  • There are only three teams with a winning streak of three games or longer, and two of them sit in 1st and 2nd on the ladder

  • There are only four teams with a losing streak of three games or longer, and two of them occupy the bottom two ladder positions

  • Across the last two rounds, the teams in the Top 8 have a 10 and 6 record. Those in next 8 have an 8 and 8 record.
