/Below is the latest Ranking on Dashboard Metrics data, which shows that, this year at least, mediocrity on some measures at least doesn’t preclude a team from greatness, as evidenced by the fact that:
Western Bulldogs, 1st on the Competition Ladder, are 11th on Own Scoring Shot Conversion and Q3 Performances
Geelong, 2nd on the Competition Ladder, are 7th on Own Scoring Shots and Points, and 9th on Q1 Performances
Melbourne, 3rd on the Competition Ladder, are 15th on Own Scoring Shot Conversion, 14th on Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion, and 7th on Q1 and Q2 Performances
Port Adelaide, 4th on the Competition Ladder, are 9th on Own Scoring Shot Production, and 10th on Q1 Performances
West Coast, 7th on the Competition Ladder, are 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th on a range of metrics
Fremantle, 8th on the Competition Ladder, are 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, and 18th on a range of metrics
The full Team Dashboard appears below, a few of the interesting things from which are that:
Port Adelaide have recorded 55.8% of their Scoring Shots as goals, Fremantle only 44.8%
Hawthorn’s opponents have registered 56.3% of their Scoring Shots as goals, Geelong’s only 45.1%
Adelaide, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, and North Melbourne are the only teams to have been outscored by their opponents in each of the four quarters considered separately
Brisbane Lions, Geelong, Melbourne, Port Adelaide are the only teams to have outscored their opponents in each of the four quarters considered separately (Western Bulldogs are currently at exactly breakeven in Q3s)
Western Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by 1.8:1 in Q4s, 1.5:1 in Q1s and Q2s, but have scored exactly the same number of points as they’ve conceded in Q3s. Their performance is Top for Q1, Q2, and Q4, but is only 11th for Q3
Six of the teams currently in the Top 8 registered wins this week
Essendon are the only team outside the Top 8 with a percentage above 100
