MatterOfStats 2020 : Team Dashboard for Round 17

The latest Ranking on Team Dashboard Metrics table appears below, and suggests that success in 2020 has been most associated with:

  • Expected Wins (according to the MoS Win Prediction Function)

  • Points Conceded

  • Scoring Shots Conceded

  • Points Scored

  • Goals Scored

  • Quarters Won

  • Q1 Performance

  • Scoring Shots Generated

  • Goals Conceded

What’s oddly been unimportant has been:

  • Own Scoring Shot Conversion

  • Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion

  • Q2 and Q4 performances (to a lesser extent)

The full Team Dashboard appears next, and reveals that:

  • Adelaide, Essendon, and North Melbourne have been outscored by their opponents in all four quarters

  • Geelong, Port Adelaide, and Richmond have outscored their opponents in all four quarters

  • No team has better than a 75% winning percentage for any quarter

  • Geelong have scored 56% of their points and GWS 57% of their points in the second half of games

  • St Kilda have scored 57% of their points in the first half of games

And, finally, here’s the team-by-team quarter-by-quarter stats table.

We still see, as has been the case for most of the season, that conversion rates have tended to decline as games have progressed though, at the individual team level, there are notable exceptions.
