MatterOfStats 2019 : Team Dashboard for Round 6

It’s interesting this season how seemingly unimportant scoring shot conversion has been: it’s all been about generating and preventing scoring shots, as the Ranking on Dashboard Metrics table below reveals.

We have, for example, West Coast, the team with the highest Scoring Shot Conversion rate now sitting 12th on the ladder, Fremantle, who are 11th on Scoring Shot Conversion sitting 2nd on the ladder, Port Adelaide, the team with the highest Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion, sitting 5th on the ladder, and Carlton and Sydney, who have the 6th- and 7th-best Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion, sitting 15th and 16th on the ladder.

The full Team Dashboard appears below, a few of the interesting features from which are that:

  • No team has won all of its Q2s, Q3s or Q4s, and Collingwood remain the only team yet to lose a Q1

  • No team has lost all of its Q1s, Q3s or Q4s, and North Melbourne are still yet to win a Q2

  • Gold Coast have now scored only 48 points to their opponents’ 100 points in Q2s, and have still scored over one-third of their points in Q1s

  • Hawthorn have scored over one-third of their points in Q3s, and Geelong and Carlton almost one-third in Q1s.

  • Hawthorn, Fremantle and Geelong have all lost only 9 or fewer quarters all season.
